Breakfast Week Recipe #1; Biscuits and Pork Sausage Gravy
This week on Bakedblog.com is going to be all about breakfast, after all it is the most important meal of the day. For the first dish we picked Biscuits and Gravy
Putting together warm biscuits with a thick gravy full of Pork Sausage makes a wonderful hearty dish that any breakfast lover just can’t deny.
I will be giving you the ingredients and directions for the sausage gravy, the biscuits I made with Bisquick. I chose to use the Bisquick because it is easy and mornings can be a busy time for families using this method you cut down on time.
Ingredients:
- Mild Pork Sausage
- 2 C. Milk
- 2 Tbs. Butter
- 1/4 c. Flour
- 1/2 tsp. Italian seasonings
- dash of Ground Chipotle Chile
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Remove sausage from roll and place into skillet and cook breaking it up with a spoon as you go. When Sausage is cooked strain the sausage make sure to place a pan underneath the strainer to catch the drippings. Leave sausage in strainer and place all the drippings back in the skillet. Add two tablespoons butter and melt into the drippings. Add the flour and mix together let that cook for about 1-2 minutes making sure it doesn’t burn. Gradually stir in 1 1/2 cups milk. Add the Sausage back in along with the spices. Continue to cook and stir, adding the rest of the milk until you reach desired consistency. Remove from heat and taste the gravy add pepper and salt until you reach the flavor you desire. Slice biscuits in half and pour gravy on top, serve.
Biscuits and Gravy is truly a classic breakfast dish, and is filling all by itself. Using canned biscuits for this dish is good, not quite as good as home made, but it also can cut down on time. I have tried this with several different sausages and the mild pork seems to work best for me. I do not recommend using maple sausage, something about the sweetness just doesn’t work right with the gravy, it ends up tasting a little weird. At least this is in my experience.
Expect more wonderful breakfast dishes all week long, I can’t even begin to tell you how excited my husband is about this week. He is a big breakfast fan, and is my willing Guinea pig this week. Thanks hun!
Just so you know the recipe card format for right now has changed. It isn’t something I wanted to do, and it will be fixed as soon as I can get my Photoshop re installed. If I can’t recover the images on my old hard drive we will just have to remake everything. Just head over to the recipe page to print out this out for yourself.
