Dave Matthews Band Concert at Busch Stadium

What an amazing night!

So this review is a little late, but better late then never right?

We got tickets very last minute and went to see Dave Matthews Band at Busch Stadium.  My husband is a huge fan, I mean if we hadn’t gone to see them he would have been so disappointed he might have cried. We looked for a long time to try and find reasonable priced tickets and by luck and craigslist my husband found a pair for us that didn’t bust our budget.

We arrived a little bit before the concert started and got some great shots of everyone hanging around outside the Stadium getting memorabilia and free stuff being handed out by vendors. The crowd was excited and for the most part dressed to impress. When the gates finally opened the lines moved fast and we all were inside rushing around to get our beverages and find our seats.

The seats we managed to get were in the Red Bird Club area. This was my first time in this area, usually when we go see a baseball game we are seated in the bleachers. The bleachers are great, but the Red Bird Club area offers an inside air conditioned area to buy your food, sit down and eat, and glass windows so you can still catch the action of the game. The air conditioning was the blessing, I was hot and sweaty and this cool relief was perfect.

We got some drinks and headed out to watch the opening act the Black Crowes. They were good, and of course sang songs from their new CD, if they did play an old song of theirs I wasn’t around to hear it, although I think the crowd would have been more pleased if they had played some of their older stuff.

Waiting wasn’t a patient game, we all wanted Dave and the band, and we wanted them now. It slowly started to get darker out, and they slid this huge screen down the stage to block our views, which prompted a lot of boo’s from the crowd. The screen was blank for a long time then it started glowing orange and the crowed erupted, soon after that the first notes of music began to play and the crowd freaked. Here it was the start of the concert, what we had all been waiting for. The huge screen went clear and we could see the band, then it slowly started to lift and there they were Dave and all the guys. The screams with in the stadium were like pure waves of noise.

Me at the Dave Matthews band concert

The Dave Matthews Band was giving great performances, the crowd was rocking, dancing, yelling, and throwing around beach balls. The stage set up was awesome with what looked like 5 Screen projecting the action on stage.

If you have ever been to a baseball game you know the smells, the sounds, but of course tonight was all different. Instead of hotdogs, beer, and sweat, I smelled, beer, cigarettes, pot, and sweat. All around us people were enjoying this concert to the max and not allowing anyone to interfere on their good time.

Dave sang and played beautifully and so did the rest of the band. They even had Tim Reynolds out there on Guitar, which was a surprise to everyone and you could hear the crowds reaction once they finally showed his face on the big screens. The night wore on and on, and even though we all knew it had to end eventually I have a feeling none of us wanted it to. They finished and left and the crowd yelled screamed, and then began shouting Dave, Dave, which eventually turned into We want Dave, we want Dave. They graciously came back out after about 5-10 minutes of us all yelling our heads off, and played a really long encore.

All good things must come to an end, and sadly so did this. I left knowing tomorrow my voice would be horse, but not caring. I turned to my husband as we walked out and simply said can we do that again. I don’t think it was just Dave Matthews Band that made me voice that comment. It was the whole evening, it was being in the stadium, being surrounded by good people who all loved the same thing. It was the lights, it was the music, the food, it was everything. A Gumbo soup of enjoyment if you will.
