National Poetry Month Poems By: The Baked Blogger

April is National Poetry Month. National Poetry month was introduced in 1996 by the Academy of American poets. They wanted to increase awareness of poetry.

I have had a love affair with poems for a long time. I really do enjoy writing them, the way they flow, the many styles, and how personal poetry can be. I decided to make this post for all those reasons. I have selected Three poems of my very own. Each is unique and has its own story.

Baby Boy

True beauty and joy, small baby boybakedblog.com
determination through your tears
standing, falling, walking, talking
more courageous with each new year

delight in what the new day brings
reaching for brand new dreams
Immaculate baby boy
impervious to the worlds schemes
Stay strong and brave

Sometimes life is flawed
Sometimes things seem grave
Life is also beautiful and broad
Life tests us and gives us cause

Handsome baby boy
Though the world might cause you pause
there is no end to the faith in you
There is no limit of great things you will do
All the wonders life has to give, enjoy
Sweet, Innocent, beautiful baby boy

I was inspired to write this poem when my son was born. Never in my life have I experienced so many emotions from the time I found out I was pregnant, to this very day, and far into the future. Having a child really does change everything.

The Sun

bright waves of beautiful light
vanished for days
back now to shine some raysbakedblog.com

breathing you in
soaking you through
like a sweet sin
some intoxicating brew

birds chirp in your wake
Plants and trees appease your decree
drowning in you, no choice but to partake
break away the frost come, and be free

Sun in the sky shine your melody
dancing in the delight you bring
consuming, and so very sultry
need, desire, to you we cling

I wrote this on a beautiful day, when the sun was shining and everything felt perfect. Since spring is just around the corner and here in St. Louis and many other places in the United States we have been experiencing a lot of rain and gloom these past two months I thought this poem was very appropriate and hopefully will brighten your day.

My final poem is very special. When my Husband’s Aunt passed away right before Christmas 2007 I was in the middle of making some dvd’s for my family. I wanted to add a section on Sherry and her life. This poem is about how she touched us all, and how much we miss her.

A Poem For Sherry

Be silent, and remember herbakedblog.com
who she was, and how much love
feelings in us do stir
we are all a mourning dove

Though shes gone
she will never really leave
For with each new dawn,
and with each falling eve

We keep her in our heart
her memory just a step behind
quick wit, and oh so smart
she will always be on our mind

Her memory forever with us stay
like the melody of a song
In our hearts, and minds each day
Sherry’s love will travel along

Poems have the ability to touch us all. The topics they can cover are endless, and almost everyone has been touched by a poem that someone else has written. Write a poem this month I encourage you, and if you get the chance post your poem in the comment section below. If you are a parent then try and get your child to write a poem, it can be a great way for them to express how they feel, plus it will help them with rhyming.

  1. Rachel, my dear wife: Thank you so much for posting this. You are an amazing mother and wife, without you I am nothing.

    Here is one for you:

    My Son’s Mother
You are so beautiful and loving so true,
For him and I you are our Glue,

To see how you treat us, and give us your love,
Tells me there really is a God up above,

Thank the lord for bringing you to me,
For without you, what would I be,

A great mother who cares with no doubt,
family and love is what your about,

Your son will always look at you as the best,
for what you do for him and I is impressed,

Thank you thank you for all that you are,
for who you love, for being my star,

I will always be here rain or shine,
I am so glad that you are mine,

Now i end this poem because I have to,
but know there arent really words to explain I love you

    ~ your husband

  3. Very beautiful poems! I can’t believe your husband wrote you one too…wow….I can barely get my husband to read the poetry I’ve published! That is very sweet indeed.

Hope you two enjoy your weekend:)

  4. Ok, it’s me again, and I’m back with a poem: When I was a little girl I used to love to go out in the front yard in the evening to make snow angels:

    The Snow Angel

    Downy flakes fall swiftly past
    The glow of the streetlight.
    A sprinkle of white flurries
Cast against the dark of night.
The snow crisp, the stars bright.
I spread my arms and I take flight.
    Wings fluttering as I fly,
    Up into the evening sky.

    Thanks for inviting me over!

  5. Beautiful Poem Christy Thanks! Keep them coming guys

    shadows dance on waves
round vortex gale become the slave
    of surface tension released above
    shattered lives the fallen dove

    whispering pines snapped in place
a beloved wife - lost without trace
Biloxi - New Orleans - Bay Saint Lois
Only together - we all got through this

    Comes a new season
    and we will not forget
    But today we smile again
    are proud again
    stand tall again

    together….

    again.

  7. Rachel, It is nice to know you like my poems.
I love those written by you too. Filled with naturality and love. And also the one by your love.
Here I would like to share with you two of my poems and hope you will like it.

    This one I wrote for my daughter ;

    My Sweet Sabrina

    My sweetheart, a beautiful rose
    You are my true love
    to my dear life
A love bond that without an end
A chain that cannot be broken
    My sweet honey rose
    Here, I promise you forever
So young and innocent was you
I will be standing strong to hold you
To let you feel my love for you
There is no fear and pain you are going through
For I’m the barrier to them all
    O my sweet Sabrina
    My bright shining star
    that light up the sky
    And my beautiful rose
that light up my heart in many possible ways
    O my dear child
    You are mine
For I am thankful HE brought you to my life
The Lord most almighty and full of love
    HE choose you and me
    to be together for eternally
    You are my pride
    I will spend my lifetime
    in love with you

    And this for my hubby Frank;

    A Love So Pure

A love as pure as yours,
A love as strong as yours,
An everlasting love that I’m holding on,
A beautiful and macho man you always be,
A precious gift God sent to me,
You….the one that’s where my life begin,
You….be the one where my life end,
With a love so pure from your heart,
From the very beginning until today,
You are still the same in your heart,
Feeling greatly in love and romantic,
No one can take your place in my heart,
For I have never find someone as good as you,
    Nothing can describe,
How perfect God had created you….
You are always my GREATEST and TRUE love,
Who always have a heart and soul, as pure as the Lotus flower.
    I Love you, My darling…..Forever..

Nice knowing you. All the best and God Bless. :)May

  9. WHISPERS ,,,,,,GATHER ABOUT me all souls who would listen.and i will speak of a love thet has foraged thru time,in all it;s beauty and passion to collect all that is thier;s to hold.a love not new,but newborn,in a new place.with more sunshine and starlight than er’e told of old.the whisper;s that travel to a lover’s ear, only to awaken him from a dream world that is now a continuence of that whisper.he think’s on her and knows,he kiss;es her he feels,he touches her,,,,,,,to awaken but once again to a WHISPER

  10. Great poems Rachel. Here’s mine:

    My Family

My family means everything to me, without them I wouldn’t be. My kids are my inspiration for all that I do. If I didn’t have them I would be really blue.
My husband is the love of my life. I can’t imagine not being his wife.
Thank you family for loving me, I love you times three!

  11. Lots of great poems.. Here is a sample of my poetry writing. Have a great day!
    Patsy

    Quilted Heart

    Rainbow patches cover my heart
    Mending past hurts
The stains of love gone by.
Hidden beneath a Beautiful, Colorful, Quilt!

  12. Here’s something worth your read (not mine):

My hands were busy through the day I didn’t have much time to play The little games you asked me to I didn’t have much time for you. I’d wash your clothes, I’d sew and cook, but when you’d bring your picture book And ask me please to share your fun, I’d say: “A little later, son”. I’d tuck you in all safe at night and hear your prayers, turn out the light, Then tiptoe softly to the door… I wish I’d stayed a minute more. For life is short, the years rush past…a little boy grows up so fast. No longer is he at your side, his precious secrets to confide. The picture books are put away, there are no longer games to play, No good-night kiss, no prayers to hear…that all belongs to yesteryear. My hands, once busy, now are still, the days are long and hard to fill. I wish I could go back and do the little things you asked me to.

(do visit my post about this here: http://www.my-sense-and-sensibility.com/2008/02/watching-my-son-grow-and-growing-up.html)

    Here’s mine:

    Foolish Decisions

sting of foolish decisions, finally taking its toll on me
    and it’s impossible to quell
    i am paralyzed,
    and fears made me captive
    my soul seeks respite,
    but to no avail
will this night turns to day again? ah!
    my sanity now borders
    between trying to make sense
    and emotional breakdown
    my mind is blank
and it leaves me vulnerable to bad memories
i am trying hard to forget!
    rage wells up again within,
while my heart cries out for acceptance, forgiveness and reassurance
    i hated myself for this
as if all my nerves conspire,
drag me down to an abyss of despair
i bare myself before God again,
    for my faith is wavering
i am drifting again in my lostness and depravity
    hated myself for this
    empty house,
    empty heart,
empty mind: is this all i have to take?
help me please find sense and meaning
    for i am lost,
    losing hope!

  13. Great poems everyone! Wonderful really thank you all
