Twilight, What they did Wrong
****SPOILER ALERT, PLEASE DO NOT READ THE FOLLOWING IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ALL OF THE BOOKS, AND SEEN THE MOVIE****

First off let me say this movie should have been made an R rated movie, they could have done so much more with it, and made it so much better.
I myself have read all 4 books, and I have seen the movie…I love the books it wasn’t even a choice for me. After the first one I was hooked and I wanted more, I think I read all 4 within one week, don’t knock me, I am a fast reader. Spending every free minute I had on reading, I would get lost in the books. I love it when a book can do that for me, so lost that when my husband would talk to me, I literally would not hear what he said. Of course this caused some irritation to my husband, and he immediately grouped me with the teenagers who are so in love with this book.
This isn’t really a series for young people to be reading, these books aren’t geared towards teenagers. It is a love story, but more then that, it involves, sex, pregnancy, death. I wouldn’t let an 11 year old read these books, and I have heard people are.
Back to the books, they are perfect, they are so insightful into what she is feeling, and what he is feeling, the emotions so strong, so powerful. You don’t get this from the movie at all, I am not sure if it is the actors that just aren’t good enough to portray this type of passion, or if the movie was just written and directed badly. I think this is where my problem really lies. Let us compare it to a movie that has another romance as the lead, say Titanic. In Titanic you really get that these two people love each other, you really understand how urgent their need to be together is. Even at the end when he lets go, it is just about the most heartbreaking thing for you, as a viewer because you have by now completely bought into their passion and desire for each other.
In the book Edward, and his kind are graceful, almost floating graceful, and I just don’t see that kind of grace in the movie. In the book the way they move, look, and speak it sounds out of this world, and you just don’t get that in the picture. That is another thing that bothers me, Edward is supposed to be drop dead good looking, and I just don’t see that in the man they cast as Edward. To each his own, but interview with a vampire, Lost boys, even Angel and spike in Buffy, they were some hot vamps, but this guy, eh he is just okay.
The movie jumped around too fast for me, maybe if the movie had followed the book’s storyline and gone at a slower pace then that passion would have been better understood. It might have made the movie longer, but if it makes it better, then I am all for it. To say I was disappointed in the movie is an understatement, after watching it, I felt like I should go back and read the book so I can get back the feeling that the movie made me lose.
If they can’t capture this simple burning passion that these two have for each other in this movie, then making the others isn’t worth it. That runs into another problem I have, the rest of the books in my opinion are much more of an adult type book. Especially the last book, how they can make that movie PG-13 is beyond me, I can’t imagine how they can even put that book into a movie. Plus I don’t think the chick they cast as Bella can convey the pain she goes through in the last book.
Maybe if they had come from an adult angle when making the movie, instead of an omg teenager level it would have been good, maybe even great, but as of right now it has to be the worst book to movie I have ever seen. They could recast, and remake the movie, they could make it better, but I doubt they will, and I dread having to watch more of them….Yes I will watch because I am that into the books, I want to see them do justice to it, and if they can, if they do, then that will be wonderful, if they don’t well then I will just settle for the picture that the books paint.
Anyone who says the movie was just as good, or better then the book, is utterly wrong.
Side note: I see a lot of men giving shit to adult women for liking these books, I just have to say if you don’t understand how we can not enjoy a good war movie or even a bad war movie, then maybe you should realize that you can’t fathom why we love a good or even bad romance novel.

I just finished the second book and like you say, I can’t wait to read the next. I too am surprised at how many people are letting their young girls read this. My daughter read everything, but it’s not because I let her…she got the books and read them. She’s still an avid reader
I’m just finishing book 2 (New Moon). I’m very hooked. My hubby is sick of seeing me with “that book” in my hands. When reading Twilight I kept wondering how they could make this into a movie and eat Edward and his family right. I agree I don’t think the actor playing Edward is very cute.
amen to that! i loved the books, and though the movie did not do it justice, i’m willing to settle for it if that means it can somewhat paint a picture, though quite far, of the story i have come to love. my husband also gets irritated when he sees me reading the books because i get so engrossed and he cannot see why. hmmmph, men!! i’ve read Twilight 3 times, the other 3 books twice and i still love it!
