Visit The Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis Missouri

Anheuser Busch imageA trip to St. Louis means a Trip to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.

Even though I have lived in St. Louis all my life I haven’t ever had a chance to visit the Brewery. My Family wasn’t big on drinking, and I guess my mother never thought that we would be interested in taking a trip there. Living in the city for pretty much all my life we passed the Brewery a lot. I can’t image my city without it, and I just had to visit since I am now almost 3 years above the legal age. If you are visiting St. Louis during the Winter time make sure to check out the light display that the Brewery has every year, it is something we never miss.

You don’t have to be 21 to take the tour, but if you want the free beer at the end of the trip you must be of legal age.

The Brewery both outside and inside is beautiful located on over 100 acres there is a lot to see on your tour of the Brewery. Your first stop will be the Atrium where you can view the history of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. Everything from AB’s great commercials to Old Beer steins and lots of historic memorabilia greet you. They have a great gift shop inside the Atrium where you can purchase hats, shirts, and of course beer. You can busy yourself looking at all of this while waiting for your tour to start, they run every 15 minutes.

Your tour guides will greet you and then give you some background information on the Brewery and the beer. We learned that Bud and Bud Lite are the two top selling brands. In 2007 their World Wide Beer sales volume was 161 Million Barrels, which is about 1700 Hundred 12 oz Beers per second.

The tour isn’t very hard to walk, and the buildings, and German style decor is just lovely. You will visit the Clydesdale Horses stables and get to see some of these amazing animals that can stand 6 feet tall and weigh more then 2,000 lbs. They joke that the Clydesdale horses not only eat a ton of food but drink 30 gallons of Ice Cold Beer a day.Bevo The Fox

Through out the trip you will notice Bevo the Fox, he is the stone statues on the corners of the building and incorporated throughout the decor in some of the buildings. In 1916 Bevo was chosen to represent Anheuser-Busch’s non-alcoholic beverage. Bevo is based on Renard the Fox a protagonist of a medieval French folk-tale. By 1929 The non-alcoholic beverage was not selling so well and Anheuser stopped production.

You will get to visit many beautiful places on the tour, but everyone’s favorite spot to visit is of course the Hospitality Room. This is where you get those promised two free beers. I never having been there thought that the two beers would be tiny little samples, however you get a generous portion. For those that don’t enjoy beer, or are too young to drink they have a fountain soda machine. The Snack of choice is Pretzels, and you can grab the free bags, sit down relax and enjoy your frosty beverage.

The Tour is free, and runs every 15 minutes. The hours it is open changes depending on the season, so I advise checking out the site before you head down. Visit Anheuser-Bush’s Website

Visit the Anheuser-Busch Image gallery and check out pictures from our tour.

Side Note:

I will be including well know tourist spots on my Visit STL page. This was a discussion I had with myself and several other people. I know a lot of people know about the brewery, but not adding places like this and like the Arch to this section of the site would be to leave it incomplete. No matter if it is a place millions of people know about, or something that is only dear to St. Louisans it will be included.

Come back next week and we will take you out to eat at a local Chicken lovers paradise.

  1. Hi Rachel,

We actually have a brewery in NH too! Merrimack, NH, which is the next town over from me. My husband, and some of his friends took the tour a few years ago and really liked it. I have been on the grounds, for different events they sponsor, like Police Day etc. They also have I think once a month “take your picture with the Clydesdales” (in NH, anyway) which is cool, esp. for the kids.

    Great post Rachel!

  2. Sounds like a lot of fun. That’s an impressive place.

  3. Hi me again. Sorry to do this to you - lol, but I tagged you.

  4. My husband and I took a mini vacation to St. Louis a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. It’s such a great city! The brewery was a very interesting tour. I had no idea the vats of beer would be that big. We enjoyed the two free glasses too! Course we enjoyed Fitz’s root beer just as much. ;)

  6. Great Blog though, sure do miss the tours; I moved to California two years ago. But lived right by the Brewery for over 22 yrs. Miss my little old house, too; which used to be a “Mom & Pop” Grainary - went out of business when the Brewery moved in, but made a great little home ! I do not, however, miss the humidity…… tee hee. If you go, raise one up for all who wish they were in the Hospitality room w/ ya’ OK ? Have a good one !

This Statement made by this person is false, I doubled checked by calling the brewery myself, they do sell beer at the gift shop

Just an FYI for those who read this great blog. YOU CANNOT PURCHASE BEER at the Brewerey. No sales of beer in gift shop; as stated. Sorry, that’s just not true.

  7. Yes they do sell beer at the gift shop, I am positive, but to appease you I called anyway here is the number you may call yourself…314-577-2626… it takes a while to get to speak to someone at the gift shop, but I asked do you guys sell beer, because I KNOW i saw some last time I went, and he informed me that they do, they sell a special sample pack as well as several other types of beer. If you are going to post false statements on my site please make sure you do your background work first.
