Visit the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis

The Missouri Botanical Garden also know as Shaw’s Garden designed by Henry Shawn, was opened to the public in 1859. Since then there have been many changes. ForThree Angels adults and kids alike the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis is a great place to visit.

We decided to take our son for his first visit to the garden right after we saw they had just opened a New Children’s Garden. I have to admit I was much more excited then my son, but that is only because I remember my child hood trips to the garden, and how beautiful and serene the place is.

The price is fair for such a beautiful place to visit and St. Louis residents do get a discount. There is so much to do, that you really do need to take the day. Spending 4 or 5 hours in the Missouri Botanical Garden is easy to do.

The New Children’s Garden is full of great things for the little ones to do. From climbing, to building a sand castle, or playing in the sprinkler area your kids will surely find it delightful. They can climb the tree house, slide down slides, or pretend they are captain of a steamboat.

All around the Garden you will find wonderful places to visit. There is a maze made from hedges to get lost in, and stop by the Climatron which houses around 1,200 species of plants in a tropical setting. Visit the largest traditional Japanese Garden in North America, where you can stop and do my favorite thing to do at Shaw’s Garden, which is to pop a quarter into a machine grab the handful of fish food that pops out. Then hang out on the Flat Bridge feeding the enormous amount of Koi and Carp fish that come to the lakes surface. It really is a feeding frenzy and even the ducks invite themselves to the buffet.

The Missouri Botanical Garden is huge with over 79 Acres of land brimming with plants, flowers, and wildlife it is hard not to get lost in the exotic beauty of Shaw’s Garden. There is always something new and beautiful to see. Right now they are displaying 40 creative and playful mosaic sculptures from Niki, it runs until October 31st, and I highly recommend checking out the sculptures.

If you are visiting St. Louis Missouri, or you are a local citizen just looking for something fun to do for the day, then take a trip to the Missouri Botanical Garden. I find it hard to describe the beauty of this place, so I will let the pictures do most of the talking. If you head over to the Visit STL page you can see a gallery of images from our trip to the garden.
